MrMaycock.com The blog of a nineteen year old university student

Blog Post 280.

I couldn't think of a title. Shame.

The past four weeks.

Fucking busy.

Okay, going back to the start of September, I got a new phone, I missed rounded corners on Facebook pictures, went to Ikea, installed Snow Leopard, had major problems with MrMaycock.com, hosted a Harry Potter party (I'm just that cool), bought tickets to see Derren Brown next year (excited!), sorted out Natwest, bought The Beatles: Rock Band, decided to buy a Forza 3 Xbox 360, and my reaction to Derren Brown sticking me to my seat was hysterical laughter.

Then I moved up to Derby. It's fun here. Lots of fun new people, fun new places, fun education. And hard education.

Last Saturday was relatively standard, apart from the whole moving myself up here, which included three games consoles, one HDTV, one iMac and a lots of other things. Played some Buzz at Mr. Adam Biddulph's, that was about it. Oh, I fell asleep around 12, which was weird. But ultimately necessary, as I do need to be awake early each day. Which is something I haven't been doing regularly since May. Other thing about that Saturday was the lack of people talking like pirates. There is always next year.

Sunday was fun, as it was the pub meetup with the CGMA and CGP course peoples. Then it was the street party, which was also quite fun. I do want to go back to Blue Note, mainly as they played Lady Gaga, La Roux and Queen in succession. I loves it. The Old Bell Hotel was obviously the place to be, plus a Vodka + Coke for £1.40 was very nom nom and I drank a few of those. =D

Monday was also fun, as I was up at Keddleston doing induction things. We had a general chat, then a CGP talk, had a fabulously fun presentation about the library then a quick university tour. Then lunch, then we built some bridges out of spaghetti and string. The team I was in won, as we were awesome and built a suspension bridge. And then we went to Add's to play Buzz (I so won one game), watched some videos off of YouTube and talked some more. =)

Tuesday was more induction fun. I thought it was funny when people turned up 50 minutes late into a one hour session. Then there was more lectures and stuff like that, not very exciting stuff. Tuesday evening was just creepy. We met Bill Jones. He's 79. That's all you need to know.

Wednesday was more induction-y things. Then it was enrolment. What a wonderful three hour long process. Two of those were just spent waiting for my course leader's signature, after that it was quite speedy. And then I got my student ID card. Which is meh. It'll do. =) Then on the evening, we wondered over to Markeaton Park, had a walk around, played with Add's Frisbee, went on the swings and the slides, and lounged around the skate park for a bit. Then we got some chips, and went back to Add's to play Buzz. =)

Thursday was not the most enjoyable days. We went walking around the Derbyshire countryside with the Computing faculty. The first hour or so was quite nice and gentle, nice views and stuff. And then we walked up a fucking long hill. And steep. I did not enjoy that at all. Then we had a few hours to lounge around in Bakewell, where everything is so expensive. We did find this nice pasta shop and I had a spaghetti carbonara which was quite nice. Fun group of people to talk to, as we talked about fun things like Fable, Modern Warfare, Halo, Salad Fingers, Charlie the Unicorn and Devo. Fun. =) And then we went to Add's to play Buzz.

Friday was quite uneventful really. Was gonna have a lie-in, but I just couldn't be bothered. So I cleaned my room, and put stuff away. There's still loads to sort out, but I've got some underbed storage and a little tower thing so I just need to find the time. I also decided against pre-ordering the Forza 3 Super Xbox 360 Elite. As I played the Forza 3 demo, and hated it. It reminded me how I now only like racing games where the aim is to crash or piss other people off. À la Burnout and Mario Kart really. I did pre-order the Modern Warfare 2 Super Elite though, as that is gonna be awesome whatever happens. Friday evening was über awesome though, as we went to Mosh, which has the best music ever. Especially the ground floor. Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, Journey, stuff like that. Fabulous.

Saturday involved me getting into The World Ends With You for the DS. As I'd never really played enough to be interested in it before, but now I'm enjoying it. It's good fun. =) Then we went over to Peter's to play some Castle Crashers and eat some Pizza and cookie blob. Very nice, fun evening in general.

Sunday was different. Parents came up to bring up stuff I forgot, bring up mail and to also buy me lunch. Which was nice and nom nommy. I've also got my Rock Band instruments which is cool, as I've missed guitaring some Beatles songs. Sunday evening was questionable, not really quite sure if I enjoyed it that much. Still, it was free, so it could've been much worse. Lots of fun Catholic prodding, but I was expecting more Simon Bird stand up. Which was a shame. Anyway, then we came back to mine to play some Rock Band, and then we went to Add's to play Buzz (I so won one game).

Today was also different. Though teaching has started, I have free Mondays. So I left here late-ish, went to Keddleston around 11.30-ish, and it was Freshers' Fair. It was quite amazing. Overall, I picked up 62-ish leaflets/flyers/brochures/vouchers, one medi:syn boy T-Shirt, one Go Hard or Go Home Walkabout T-shirt, one Size Does Matter! pink T-shirt from Varsity, one pair of I Love Vodka boxers, one bible, one keyring, three bottle openers, one Mosh condom, one light-up Vodka Kick button, one light-up Coyote Wild button, 10 teabags, one Lynx Instinct deodorant bullet, one mug, one Varsity spanking bat, seven pens including one that lights up when you hit it, two free drinks at Coyote Wild, one free shot at Varsity, three lollipops, lots of sweets, two free bowls of chips at Varsity, one I Love Vodka lanyard and poster, one Revolution voucher book, 15% off at Toni&Guy, some post-its, a temporary tattoo, four slices of pizza, one medi:syn drawstring bag, one Varsity vCard, one candyfloss stick, one Wetherspoons cheap things wristband, two cups of free popcorn and a lighter. I also picked up my NUS card, which is nice, sexy and green. I also sorted out my UDo account so I can now login to the Derby network. Mr. Darke was just on Eggheads (but he lost, which is not what we expected). And finally, my parents have just been told that I have been financially assessed and will be getting a full £2906 grant.

Oh, to see my Freshers' Fair things, go here, here and here.

That has been Freshers' fortnight for me so far. Met lots of fun new people, been lots of new fun places, and starting sleeping early. Teaching starts tomorrow, which should be interesting. Also, Vernon Kay at the shopping centre party tomorrow, which should also be interesting

However, to finish today off, I'm gonna go cook myself a Lamb Rogan Josh, and I may head over to Syn or Mosh later, or maybe just lounge around having fun.

I love Derby.

16May/09

Hmm.

Yesterday was a strange day.

In for form, spent an hour in the sixth form center, went to Cannock, bought some marshmallows, some cake ingredients, an Xbox 360 controller, some Doritos, McDonalds, went back to school did some maths, went to Maths, came home.

I then found a more elegant way of packaging Rock Band to be transported around (needing no survival or bin bags, at all) and went to Sophie's for her birthday party. It was great fun, Rock Band was awesome, but Buzz was even awesomer, mainly because my team won the most. Woop.

Eurovision tonight, so exciteddd! Fail weather though, no outside disposable barbecue-ness.

Am off to go bake a cake, set up Rock Band and probably watch some Mythbusters.

Eheh.

I do love me a bit of Mythbusters.

12Apr/09

In the past 36 hours…

I have spent 33 of them awake. Exhausting.

However, those 33 hours have been pretty exciting.

Now, here, in a previous revision, I had a nice long list of what I had spent my time doing. However, I couldn't make the math work out, so I have up, mainly because it's 11pm and I'm shattered.

So, in summary, Add had an exciting birthday party. Lots of fun playing Rock Band 2, as usual, but I've since played Buzz: Quiz TV, Soul Calibur IV and Little Big Planet, and I think they're all quite nifty games. I still don't have the money for a PS3 though. Or the room, to be honest.

Also had a fun evening in general, seeing my friends for the first time in over a week.

Also had a fun excursion, going to Sainsbury's and finding Mike, going to Tesco, going to Asda, going to McDonalds and going to KFC. Though I did miss Britain's Got Talent. It was made up by winning a free Apple Pie from McDonalds. Which is always appreciated.

That's about it really.

Apart from during the time that I've been home, the last eight hours, I've done no work. But an early night tonight (I be shattered) might induce productivity tomorrow. Here's hoping, it does need to start soon.

10Apr/09

Wow, my old posts were truly awful.

I don't really have anything more to say.

Actually, leaving that post there would be very similar to the posts I am describing as awful. So, I'm going to rant a bit.

Which is what my blog mainly is now.

Oh well.

Anyway, today, I've been looking at the idea of a tumblelog. As for me, it would be easier to deal with. So that might be the next thing I waste copious amounts of time with. Time that cannot be spent on creating or maintaining it. Which sucks.

I actually started my work today! I spent two hours finding as much work as possible for my HUL ICT coursework, and then ended up retyping two of my documents from my hard copies as I lost them to not efficiently backing up my data. Silly me. But that's the hard part of HUL's coursework done as far as I'm concerned, the rest is just monotonous and repetitive work that I could do in a day, I reckon. Not today, though.

I also added some more detail to my timed exam work for CLA. Not long, but a short amount of time.

Anyway, doing the above has made me feel better about doing nothing up to now with my time this holiday.

On a different subject, tomorrow will be nice to see some of my friends for the first time in a week. Plus, Rock Band. Plus, alcohol. Although alcohol and Rock Band don't mix well for me, as I just fail entirely.

Sunday, I imagine, will be the last day of not doing much at all.

Well, apart from Thursday. As I'm planning to go pick up a Mystery Gift in Birmingham. And by Mystery Gift, I mean Shaymin for Pokémon. Oh yes.

30Dec/08

Whoops.

I fail at this posting malarchy. Now it's been like, nine days since I posted properly.

Okay, I'm quite worried about my January exams now. I've left revision far too late, so on my schedule I've got four exams to revise for and two big pieces of ICT work. To be honest, I think I'm going to have to leave the ICT until my exams finish, as getting those marks now are much more important.

Sorted out my exam timetable for Summer also, three exams the week before we break up, two the week we come back and two the week after. I feel sorry though, for the people who took Maths and continued General Studies to A2, as the final General Studies exam is the morning of C4. I'm so glad I dropped that one.

Anyway, yes, failure to post for a week or so again. Anyway, since that day, I did nothing for most of the week. On Christmas Eve, everyone (parents, sister, her husband and I) was round eating. Christmas Day was everyone round again, eating more. Boxing Day was more of the same.

Presents I got consisted of Elite Beat Agents, Rock Band 2, The World Ends With You, The Black Books collection, The Blackadder collection, the missing Futurama movies, and a phone that works.

Room is clean and tidy, and has been for a while. I'm impressed with myself.

Went out for a meal with my parents, Adrian and his parents earlier today. Food was nice, burnt poppadom however.

Going to Birmingham tomorrow. Don't know what to buy. Might buy some cheap Vodka so I can make some Appletini's on Thursday. Might buy some new games too. Who knows. The world, to be honest, is my oyster.

Well, let oyster = £40. And let world = Birmingham.

Oh well.

The lack of any American TV shows this week has disappointed me. However, there will be new stuff in like two weeks time, which will be nice. Like LOST, Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives and The Big Bang Theory. Quite excited for LOST, to be honest. Can't remember what happened in Season Four, but I'll catch up somehow.

Best thing on TV this past week was obviously The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, obviously. Might watch it again tomorrow. Well, later on today.

And best thing this next coming week is NEW JONATHAN CREEK. I am quite excited. I may even watch it whilst other people are enjoying themselves. As I really want to see it. Really really bad.

Might pick up the DVDs I'm missing tomorrow if Zavvi haven't a sploded yet. Here's hoping. Mom probably wants me to go to The Pier to pick up some wine glasses. And I think that's it for stores in administration, being as Woolworths is like dead now.

To take a tangent to that conversation, I haven't really downloaded much new music this past week. Just a few, like Decode, The Loco-Motion, Alphabeat, and Busted. Good old party cheese.

I think that's it for my weekly wrap up.

...

Oh!

I got an offer from Huddersfield!

Which makes Derby: 260; Huddersfield: 260; Sheffield Hallam: 260; Staffordshire + Teesside: Interviews.

Don't really want to attend those. Mainly because of the fact I'm in New York, Las Vegas and because I have exams, but also because I don't want to go there.

Harsh, I know.

However, that is definitely it. See you on Sunday. =)

27Sep/08

Things are fun.

Playing Rock Band for a night is fun. However that was mainly on vocals, and so was quite throat-pain-inducing. Especially singing the first half of Run to the Hills at least four times in a row, and not actually finishing.

Castle Crashers is fun. Especially as I only paid £9.00 for the points. Good bargain, I feel. I also love this song.

The songs in Camp Rock are fun. However, the oh-so-obvious canned laughter plus predictable plot is not.

Signs in Burger King are fun. That's it.

Time Machine finishing backing up for the first time in five weeks is fun. Well, Mac-saving, especially if I have another kernel panic.

Pre-ordering Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts and discovering I get the free XBLA port of the original Banjo Kazooie is fun. Especially as I love Banjo Kazooie.

Something are quite as fun. Like kernel panics, Digicook.co.uk being spammed heavily, and not posting here in a week.

Still, all is good.

Rock Band on Xbox Live

is not so fun, actually, when you get half way through songs and then they quit, just beacuse they are losing.

Especially when you're 7 minutes into Green Grass & High Tides.

I mean, seriously.

21Sep/08

Rock Band on Xbox Live

is quite fun, actually.

Especially when you're paired up with the same person for six battles in a row.

Not so fun when I have actually lost all but one of them, but hey.

25Aug/08

I really need to try this.

It would give me a reason to play my Flute.

22Jul/08

Hate is a strong word.

I feel detest is stronger so.

Therefore, I detest Reptilia by The Strokes.

Stupid vocal line - has taken me almost two hours to manage to complete the expert chart.

Never againnn.
