MrMaycock.com The blog of a nineteen year old university student

17Jun/09

Wednesday the 17th.

Uploaded a new blog header image that was more appropriate to my current circumstances. Unless you're currently on Facebook. Which is cool. But you're so missing out.

Today was great, went off to Birmingham. Traded in my Wii and an additional remote and nunchuck for £110 trade in at Gamestation, which was nice. I then used that credit to get me a Microsoft Points Card and Lips, with brought me down to £60, which is still a lot of credit that can be spent on some other games later.

Went around, can't quite remember when. But anyway, bought Aimee's birthday presents, bought Alan Carr's autobiography and Russel Brand's latest book, hardcover, £6 for both, which was awesome. Also got some Sharpies to replace the black one that died in November. And they have a fine-liner tip, which I thought was pretty ninja to be honest.

Then we headed home and I played Lips for about five hours. And as expected, spent an entire points card on DLC songs. Got another one coming tomorrow/Friday though, which I'm not going to spend. It's going to sit there until something I actually want comes online.

Anyway, a photo of me revising Physics is shown to the right (or just somewhere on Facebook). Isn't it so fun.

In other news, oh my god Sree is so annoying why don't the bloody housemates nominate him so he can go awayyyy, and they should stop nominating Halfwit as I find him amusing.

That's about it.

Pub today for lunch, pub tomorrow for something. Should be fun whatever happening. Slightly feel a bit bored that I've not got anything planned for Friday. I'm sure I'll cope, I do have access to about five games I want to finish, Scrabble Live, Bejewelled Blitz (if it ever comes back from maintenance), and Zynga Poker.

Oh, and Restaurant City. That's become quite addictive.

I'm bored, or am out of things to say.

Therefore: fareewell!

13Jun/09

Another fun day.

Woke up at 4.30am today to claim facebook.com/samuel, but was too slow. Therefore, I have http://www.facebook.com/samuel.maycock instead, which isn't that bad.

I then tried to go back to sleep, which didn't happen. Which then set me up to go in to Derby for an Open Day on three or so hours of sleep. Not the best, but it's about normal for me anyway.

Had a letter inviting me to the Great Wyrley Performing Arts High School Oscar's. For my contribution to the arts. I'm not sure where that happened. But I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. Very exciting. Click on the image to the right to see the text of the letter.

Left the house late, so we arrived at Derby late, obviously.

Got on an accomodation tour for Peak Court, as it'd be nice to see where abouts my actual room will be in about three months and a week. Turns out it's very nice. Rooms were very similar to York's rooms, just a bit shorter and a bit wider. Bathroom was identical, and the kitchen was bigger, so it's all good. Not far from anywhere either, which is also nice.

As we were late, we had no chance to go talk to the course leader before the talks started, so we decided to go to the Computing talk for the third time. Thought it was great that my mom could identify Project Natal when others in the room couldn't. Talking to the course leader and some students made me feel less terrible about me probably not getting my target grades. Which is still killing me. Gonna try hard to do as well as possible next week so I can get a few more marks. Maybe even a C? That would be nice.

Went into the city centre afterwards to have a look around, which looks fun. Lots of fun shops. Went home. Now I'm home. And off to revise. So I can maybe get a C.

Farewell. =)

Monday, 8th of June, 2009

I'm not sure if it was the fact that Facebook now posts notes to everyone's home pages, but I had 7 comments in 24 hours. Which were also the first comments I've had in 10 months. Good times. =)

Anyway, today, I officially started revising.

I mainly did PA04 today, and by did, I mean I read through a revision book. I also watch six episodes of Mythbusters and four episodes of American Dad!

I then bought three tickets to see Lostprophets.

I then thought about extending my Wordpress blog to use Facebook Connect to allow anyone to comment on the blog with their Facebook details. In turn, it would allow people to post comments onto their Facebook profiles, and allow me to not have to use Notes on Facebook to show posts. In the end, I had three different plugins tried out, and though each would post, they all produced either: an ugly layout, 404 error messages, terrible speeds due to having to connect to Facebook multiple times, or bad user management.

One of my favourite plugins also allowed people to comment on Facebook, then also posting the comments locally on the blog, and vice versa, which I thought was very ninja. However, it didn't connect with the wall or peoples home pages, which made me sad.

However, at the end of five hours and three plugins, I came back with nothing. Apart from a new favicon. Which, you have to admit: it's pretty sexy.

Favicon

Look at thatt. You know you love it.

In other news, whilst doing this waste of time, Apple hosted their annual WWDC keynote, which had a few good and exciting announcements.

Most of it to me, was truly useless.

However, the announcement of Snow Leopard for $29 was an amazing and epic announcement which made me happy, as I expected the price to be four times more expensive. Also, if I were an iPhone user, or a to-be iPhone user, OS 3.0 would make me pretty happy. However, the iPhone 3G S does look nice, but I can't afford it. Which sucks totally.

Now I'm watching Family Guy, and am off to bed (along with watching some more Mythbusters, American Dad! and probably listen to some Lady Gaga) so I can start learning PA07. I truly mean start. We have an awful, awful teacher.

7Feb/09

The past week.

On Monday, I woke up and was told that school was not on, due to the snow, so I went back to sleep. A few hours later I was asked over to have snow-tastic fun in Cheslyn Hay. Sounds fun.

It took Matty and I an hour-ish to get from Norton to Tesco, then we found Aimee and Adam. We went over to some form of park and played on the swings, and threw snow at each other. Good times. Aimee did make a big snowball from our failed snowman, which was awesome.

Then we found Todd and Fran, and had more snow fun, which was fun. Then I missed my bus. That wasn't so good times. But then I was home soon enough, which was good. All in all, a good day of procrastinating from ICT coursework. The photos from there are on Flickr and Facebook.

Tuesday brought another day off due to the snow. And I did nothing all day.

Wednesday was a day at school for once. Funny thing being that I had only one lesson all day. Wednesday was awesome, as I got the £100 EMA bonus. Really didn't expect to get it, to be honest.

Another snow day on Thursday. Don't see why at all, to be honest. Glad that it made me miss three hours of Physics, however. Another day of doing nothing.

Back into school on Friday, and I actually had lessons today. Did little work, though, to be honest.

Saturday, well, today, went to Star City for Laser fun. It was. And since then, I've slept a bit, as I was exhausted due to running around like a maniac. Good times. I've also done no work.

Essentially, it's 105 hours exactly until I leave for Las Vegas, which means I have 105 hours (minus travel time to Machester Airport) to fully implement and test my database, which means I'm going to die. I probably should do some ICT of the publishing variety, as I'm a bit behind.

Oh well. I'm not going to do any now, as I'm off to play Audiosurf. Which means I have Sunday, well, tomorrow, and then after schools next week. I do hope that Monday is off school as it would provide me with time that I so desperately need.

Or, I could buy a netbook and do work in America.

I really do want a netbook. *sigh*

21Dec/08

Oops, I did it again.

Ooh, how very reminicising of Britney Spears. But yes, I haven't posted again, in a week. I'm starting to fail at this. Oh well.

I'm now enjoying Folie à Deux, mainly because of the FBR bands. I'm also enjoying Live Your Life (feat. Rihanna) by T.I., because it has fun sounds. I am also liking Once Upon a Christmas Song, by Geraldine McQueen, and I've been singing it over and over and over again. However, I am not liking iTunes DRM, as it is preventing me from listening to stuff on my 360.

School = done. Until January. Mock = done, 57%, not bad. ICT6 = started, finished four marks worth. ICT5b = not done anything. Oops.

Music concert on Tuesday was quite fun. Me and Hayley laughed a lot. And I didn't screw up too bad.

OMG HEROES SEASON FINALE! wtf with Sylar and wtf with Ando being all meta now. Who knows.

Meal was fun. My Cajun Chicken was very nice, lots of chips, and the Chocolate Fudge Cake was nice too. Good fun, aye. However, uploading the photos to Facebook was not. From my camera, I imported everything to iPhoto, and started to tag everyone in the photos with the plugin. Uploaded all the photos with my tags showing, approved them. Then, Facebook deletes all my tags. So I then had to tag everyone again. How silly.

The IT Crowd on Friday amused me.

It doesn't feel like Christmas is in four days. Maybe because the only indication of Christmas in my room is my wallpaper, which Windows Live Messenger is covering anyway. I can see a bit of a bauble. Look.

Hmm.

Doritos: Dash of Destruction or whatever, was the easiest 200 gamerscore ever. In Burnout Paradise, 10 months later, I have discovered all events. Took bloody long enough.

Interview with Staffordshire has been requested. On the same day as the Teesside one, though, which is just bad planning.

20k track plays on Last.fm reached this week, with I Don't Care by Fall Out Boy.

I need to start using del.icio.us more. But it's Delicious now. But I prefered the .'s. Oh well. Anyway, I feel that using it would allow me to close the tabs I've had open about food, WoW Gear and song lyrics, that have been open for many weeks now.

I don't think I can fit anything else into this post, to be honest.

Based on my recent schedule, I'll be posting again in 168 hours time.

Obviously I won't, because it's my sisters birthday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the day after Boxing Day between then. See you on the other side.

I need to say that more.

8Oct/08

What a strange and pointless day.

Form: Get a target setting day appointment.

Lesson One, Study Period One: Colour in the black bits on my Vans to make them prettier. Clean them, too.

Lesson Two, Study Period Two: Go to Tesco, buy a waffle, heat said waffle, make room smell of waffle, make everyone want said waffle. Mmm.

Lesson Three, CPL: Nearly fall asleep due to an irrelevant and grammatically and spellingly awful presentation.

Lunch: Go home, due to a hospital appointment.

Lesson Four, Free: Travel to hospital. Took 40mins. Check-in. Wait 10mins.

Lesson Five, should have been Maths: Now in hospital cubicle. Wait 15mins. Am told as long as my toes are straight, I can kick things in four weeks time. Home.

ICT Homework. ICT Coursework. Castle Crashers. World of Warcraft. Wondering why I cannot access Google, MySpace, Facebook, or any Blogsmith blogs.  Book open days. Still wonder why I cannot access previously mentioned websites. Physics revision.

Done.

22Apr/08

The day off school (numero uno)

Today's been quite exciting to be honest.

I've eaten some Oreos.
Done two physics past papers.
Done a chemistry past paper.
Created my (less Life, more RSS) Lifestream.
Done some stuff for the next stage of Young Enterprise.
Been for a pub meal.
Been to Asda.
Moved my finances around.
Found some people on social networks.
Did some Mario Kart Wii time trials.
Played some battles on the Chompy Chomp Chomp Chomp course over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and won, lots.
Done my daily quests on the Isle of Quel'Danas.
Found some new artists.
Downloaded some new music.

Broken heating = school day - chemistry coursework = exciting day.

Fwee.
